The old cemetery in Carlow is situated delightfully by the bank of the River Barrow. The side of the hill is covered with high-growing grass and among it stick out old tombstones – a perfect picture from horror films. The cemetery is featured by an old and squalid, centrally-placed statue which looks like a huge wall standing between the cemetery and the side of the river.
A wide alley (Braganza) by the river and a few benches beside the cemetery wall make it a great place for evening strolls.
To reach the cemetery, go along the river from the bridge or along Athy Road turning into Montgomery Street and then right by the river. You can also turn into Grave Lane from Athy Road (by the hospital) which leads to the very gate of the cemetery.
